🎯 Our Goal for Creative Strategy

New winners.
Every single month.

Not one breakthrough ad from three months ago kept on life support. Fresh, performing winners β€” consistently, every month β€” so we can grow the account instead of depending on it.

1 Find new winners every month β€” not just iterate on the one ad that worked last quarter.
2 Build a diverse portfolio of winners so the account never relies on a single ad.
3 Use that portfolio to profitably increase Meta spend month on month.
4 More spend β†’ more revenue β†’ more profit β†’ bigger bonuses for you.
5 Keep repeating that cycle. This is how we grow β€” and how you earn.

The performance bonus exists because when you find new winners, everyone wins. We grow. You earn more. That's the deal β€” and it's a deal we genuinely want to honour as generously as possible.

Your salary pays you to do the job. Your performance bonus rewards you for doing it exceptionally well. We hope our best Creative Strategists earn far more from bonuses than from their base salary.

Work hard, do your job right & we'll make sure it's worth the sweat.

πŸ’± Currency Note β€” Our ad spend figures (Foreplay & Growth Guide) are in NZD. Shopify revenue figures are in USD.

Every Brief Must Begin With a Hypothesis

True / False Hypothesis Framework

Every single creative brief must begin with a clear True/False hypothesis. The purpose is to ensure that every ad tests something specific and produces a useful learning. Before launching, we must know what result would make our hypothesis True and what would make it False.

Hypothesis β†’ Ad β†’ Result β†’ Learning β†’ Next Test

A hypothesis should answer:

1What do we believe?
2Why do we believe it?
3What would make it True?
4What would make it False?
πŸ’‘ For New Ideas / Ideation

A new idea tests a new direction β€” a different angle, avatar, desire, problem, or mechanism. The first execution tells us whether the direction is worth pursuing, not whether it will be a winning ad.

Hypothesis We believe positioning our socks as preventing red marks will resonate because it solves a specific and common frustration that ordinary comfort messaging ignores.
TRUE Meta gives the ad meaningful spend and it performs better than the other new directions being tested.
FALSE Meta gives the ad little spend or it performs materially worse than the other new directions.

If True, iterate heavily on the direction. If False, move on or reconsider how it was executed.

πŸ” For Iterations

An iteration uses a previous result to test one specific improvement. Do not make random changes β€” identify why the previous ad may have worked, change something with intent, and test that belief.

Previous The original ad generated desire, but it lacked urgency.
Hypothesis We believe making the consequence of waiting more explicit will improve conversion by giving customers a reason to purchase now.
TRUE The iteration achieves a lower CPA or scales to more spend than the original ad.
FALSE The iteration performs worse than the original ad after receiving sufficient spend.
If we cannot clearly explain what would make an ad's hypothesis True or False, the brief is not ready. Without a True/False hypothesis, we are simply making ads. With one, we are collecting data, closing feedback loops, and progressively building better ads. A winning ad will often be several iterations removed from the original idea.
Trademark Protection β€” The #1 Rule
⚠️ TRADEMARK PROTECTION β€” THE #1 RULE

Never name competitors β€” Birkenstock, Boston, Arizona, Crocs, Dansko, Sanita, Kidmi, Quince, Kmart, Walmart, Cotton On, or ANY brand/retailer.

Nicknames count too β€” "Birks," "Burks," and anything along those lines are also trademarked.

Country-of-origin and founding-year tells are off-limits β€” "famous German clog brand" or "250-year-old brand" both identify a specific company.

Amazon is OK to reference (it's a platform, not a competitor). Legal consequences for violations.
βœ… You Can Say
  • 400,000+ pairs sold, 350,000+ customers
  • Less than 1% return rate
  • 4.4-star Trustpilot, 1,000+ reviews
  • Genuine European cow suede
  • Real metal hardware, cork footbed, ComfortPlus
  • No break-in period (instantly comfortable)
  • Great for / helps with foot pain, plantar fasciitis
  • Two female founders battling the big brands
  • No wholesaler / distributor / retailer markup
  • Donate-don't-return exchange policy
  • Sustainable / eco-friendly / ethically made
  • Made in China with full ethical oversight
  • 50% off / BOGO (BOGO preferred)
❌ Do Not Say
  • Any competitor brand or nickname (Birks, Burks)
  • Trademarked names (Boston, Arizona)
  • Country-of-origin tells ("German clog brand")
  • Founding-year tells ("250-year-old brand")
  • Retailers (Kmart, Walmart, Cotton On)
  • "Cures" / "guaranteed" / "proven" (unless tied to refund)
  • "Cheap" framing (use "value for money")
  • Carbon-neutral / recycled-material claims
  • Specific charity names (until approved)
  • Celebrity likeness without authorisation
  • Body-shame customers / punch down
  • Political / religious content
🎬 GO AS DRAMATIC AS YOU WANT ON PROBLEM DEMOS
Wincing, slicing shoes open, peeling fake suede, plastic snapping, embarrassment scenarios β€” all encouraged. The brand is the relief, not the judge β€” empathize with past dupe buyers, don't shame them. Only hard rule: no visible competitor logos.
βš–οΈ It Depends β€” Context-Sensitive Claims
Strong outcome claims ("fixed my pain," "eliminates pain") β†’ testimonial/voiceover only, not brand voice
"Guaranteed" β†’ only when tied to a money-back offer ("guaranteed or your money back")
Premium brand comparisons β†’ plurals OK ("the $200 clogs"); specific identifiers not OK
Charity mentions β†’ generic ("we support charities") OK; specific names need founder approval
πŸ“ Production Specs

9:16 only (statics included). Content + text inside safe-zones. Music balanced with voiceover. Competitor logos blurred or burnt off. In unlicensed UGC: no faces, no distinctive tattoos.

πŸ“š Gray Area β€” Real Examples
❌ FAIL
"I used to wear those famous German clogs for years and honestly? These Qomforts feel exactly the same β€” for a quarter of the price."
"German" is too identifying. Drop the country tell and it passes.
❌ FAIL
Burn test with a partially-burnt but still squint-readable competitor logo on the synthetic suede.
Visible competitor logos are an auto-fail. Pass only after fully blurred or obscured.
βœ… PASS
AI-generated woman in her 50s gives a voiceover testimonial: "After 10 years of foot pain, I finally found shoes that actually help." No AI disclaimer.
AI-generated talent presented as customers is permitted. Strong outcome language is fine in testimonial form.
